Define Your Goals. Create The Roadmap

To get to where you want to go, you have to know where you're going. Seems obvious, right? But unfortunately most people don't take the time to seriously ask themselves, "where do I want to end up in life?"

Usually, people will take the time to think of what job they want, of if you're younger, you might think about the college you want to attend based off of outer expectations and what's familiar. But rarely do we take the time to ask ourselves exactly what we want when we reach the end of our lives and look back upon our journey.

And I'm talking about questions such as:

How do I want to be remembered?

What do I value most?

How do I align my actions with my values?

What kind of an impact do I want to leave on the world?

How would someone explain my legacy?

If I could accomplish anything in this lifetime, what would it be?

I believe that these are some of the most important things we can spend our time thinking about. Unless we answer these questions, we will resort to doing whatever is easy or convenient, rather than doing what is meaningful and directed towards an end.

In the music world, it's similar to not knowing what kind of musician you want to be. Someone who doesn't know what kind of music they want to play will be distracted by the newest fad on Instagram or YouTube rather than stay the course and pursue their desired goals.

If you have a personal mission statement to sustain you - something to strive towards everyday - the chances that you'll be swayed or distracted by silly trends or the opinions of others will be greatly reduced.

Take some time to think this through. Then write it down! Last week I wrote my core values and personal "manifesto" that I can look to everyday and then base my daily routine off of how I decide to navigate towards those goals.

If you want to hear exactly what they are, please feel free to check out "In The Groove" Episode #5 which you can find on the Apple Podcast App, Spotify, or YouTube.
