Alright I’m finally doin’ it. Caving in. Starting a blog.
A few years ago I would’ve rippppped on myself for even having the idea - because obviously blogs are for snobs who think people that are minding their own business, like me, really care to read about some blogger’s newest cauliflower recipe or quirky Halloween idea.
Well my opinions (among many other things in my life) have obviously changed, and I’ve read blogs that have personally helped me in a few situations. From reading product reviews, to answering questions about car troubles, etc.
Long story short, I’ve always wanted to improve the quality of life of others, to help them grow and become better humans. And I think I’m in a position where I might be able to help at least one other person in one way or another. Eventually.
Ever since I started playing music for an audience (besides grade school concerts), I realized the power that music has over people. It heals people. Music inspires, soothes, changes your perspective, educates, communicates, and so much more. Ever since I was a kid, I said, “I wanna do that”.
So, last year I finally made the decision to “do that,” aka make an attempt at a career in the music business by being a professional drummer. I’ll try to summarize the past year in my next post.
My aim is to share my experience in real time, so that others might glean some wisdom from my mistakes and hopefully, successes. If I can discover any insight into what it takes to sustain one’s self as a working drummer, I want to share it with whoever needs it at the moment! Or maybe someone replaces “drummer,” with “musician” and it helps them out too.
In an effort to keep this relatively short, here’s what you can expect to read about in the future. My personal experience regarding:
Physical, mental, and spiritual wellness
Being a drummer in Chicago
Playing in bands
Teaching private lessons
Studying privately with Pete Magadini
Being a touring drummer
The importance of relationships
What I’m practicing
